Footy Tipper 2026 – Round 22 Wrap

Records falling. The Cowboys meet the dreaded red pen. The Big Guns win, and we welcome more teams to Mad Monday.

Cowboys Lassoed

In last week’s preview, I predicted this would be a high scoring match. But little did I know it was going to be all one-sided.

The Roosters have a made a statement and are no longer flying under the radar with an 82-12 win over the Cowboys in Townsville.

They were obviously magnificent and were that close to scoring 50+ in the 1st half alone. Records tumbled as the Roosters win was ranked the highest victory in 91 years.

James Tedesco had an absolute blinder scoring twice and with three try assists in the 1st half before being sidelined with injury. In fact, Teddy was the highest rated player for the entire round despite only playing one half.

The Chooks have now righted their differential ship to challenge for the title and sit one win behind the Panthers while the Cows are in a four-way battle with the Rabbitohs, Bulldogs and Sea Eagles for the last (cannon fodder) places for the finals.

The Big Guns Fire

Joining the Roosters, it was a big round for the Panthers, Warriors, Sharks, Dolphins and Knights. The battle to make the top two and all-important top four between these six teams will be interesting watching for us Tipsters and exciting for fans.

Five rounds to go to see who will be challenging the Panthers for the NRL title.

Mad Monday

We say farewell to last year’s grand finalists, the reigning premiers(x1) Broncos and runners up(x2) Storm.

Although interstate mathematicians are madly playing with their abacuses saying it isn’t so.

They join powerhouses Eels, Titans, Wests Tigers and Dragons into 2026 oblivion.

Speaking of which…

Eels Beat Wests Tigers

I can’t recall ever seeing so many mistakes made by two teams in one game.

For what it was, it was a very entertaining 2nd half with the Wests Tigers hitting the lead 13-12 with nine minutes to play before the Eels scored in the final minutes.

For Dragons fans, a Tigers victory would have helped their cause to avoid the wooden spoon. Mathematically, they are still chasing the Eels, Titans, Broncos and Tigers playing both the Tigers and Eels in the final rounds.

The Dragons also play the Bulldogs and Sea Eagles with the Sharks next up at Kogarah on Sunday.

If there is ever a time to win a local derby, this is it.
