This is a tough round. What have I picked?
There are so many games where either team could win this round that I have been umming and ahhing so much I sound like Molly Meldrum.
But I have to make selections.
Match Of The Round
The highlight of this round is the Roosters v Broncos on Super Saturday. Both teams have been in good form with the Roosters doing it easy over the past month and the Broncos doing enough to win minus a host of their stars.
The Broncs will welcome back Pat Carrigan and Reece Walsh this week with both teams’ backlines returning to full strength. This will be a massive game, but I think the Broncos are a Payne Haas short of winning this one.
Friday Night Football
The round starts with Bulldogs v Cowboys. The Dogs are bolstered with the return of Stephen Crichton from injury.
The Bulldogs are at home but can’t score points. While the Cows can score but can’t defend.
Heads or Tails?
This is then followed by the Dolphins v Storm where the Storm haven’t won a game since Round 2 and the Dolphins Round 3.
Surely the Storm can win this one? They are overdue but will be without key half Jahrome Hughes due to concussion protocols. But the Dolphins are also overdue and will be playing in front of a packed Suncorp Stadium.
Where is that coin again?
Super Saturday
Saturday is not that much clearer.
The Titans v Raiders I’m sure will be a great game but the Titans are an ordinary team and the Raiders are still rattled by last year’s finals capitulation. The Raiders will be without Ethan Strange so their backline will be reshuffled. The Titans only wins were against the lowly Dragons and Eels while the Raiders have Manly, Rabbitohs and Storm as scalps.
I sertiously cannot tip the Titans in general. Raiders to win this one.
This game is followed with the Eels hosting the Warriors.
The Eels are hard to beat at CommBank Stadium (last year) but the Wah’s will be too strong here if they show up this round.
Sunday Football
The Knights take on the Rabbitohs at a packed McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
On paper this looks straightforward but with Kalyn Ponga, Bradman Best, Greg Marzhew and Tyson Frizell all set to return they owe their massive home crowd a victory here.
The final two matches are the Sharks v Wests Tigers and Panthers v Sea Eagles.
I really don’t know about the Sharkie’s v Tigers, but I will give the Sharks victory only on home ground advantage.
I am more certain about the final game of the round. The Panthers will be way too strong against Manly who have won four straight since appointing interim Coach Foz. This is my Standout.
