Footy Tipper 2024 – The Final Wrap and Winners

The seasons seem to complete faster and faster each year. I must be getting older.

But before we announce the winners here is the Round 27, and final, wrap for the season.

We will keep this short.

Good Knight Dolphins

Sin-bin time as the ‘Phins do anything to end Kaylan Ponga’s day

The Newcastle Knights ground out a home victory against the Dolphins to lock in the final piece of the Finals puzzle.

It was a tight game with the difference being two try assists by Kaylan Ponga. The Knights were on top the entire game and not even a cheap shot by Jessie Bromwich trying to knock out Ponga could avoid the inevitable.

The Dolphins knocked out the Broncos last week. The Knights likewise the ‘Phins this week and will take on the Cowboys in an elimination final in Nth Queensland. This will be a massive game and is Queensland’s Alamo in a very forgettable year.

Spoon Bowl

Wests Tigers add another spoon to their cabinet.

The Parramatta Eels made a mockery of the “Spoon Bowl” to destroy the Wests Tigers 60-26.

The Tigers have now completed a three-peat of spoons and look likely to be favourites again in 2025.

The gap in the scoreline shows just how far behind the Tigers are to the rest of the competition. Yes, they improved by winning more games than last year. Yes, they have some key signings arriving in 2025. But they also lose key personnel and are still a revolving door for players.

In the end, Parra wasn’t even the second worst team. They finished above the Rabbitohs.

It is Benji’s first season as head coach. Good luck next year.

Miracle Bowl

The halftime performance was the highlight for Dragons fans. I hadn’t seen anything like this since Entertainment Express in the 90’s.

The so-called Miracle Bowl between the Dragons and Raiders ended with an individual grubber, regather and try to wannabe halfback Corey Horsburgh to steal a Raiders win.

Miracle Bowl in that the winner would have to hope for a draw between the Knights and Dolphins to progress. Raiders Coach Ricky Stuart hadn’t given up hope during his press conference but, seriously, the miracle was the healthy crowd of Dragons and Raiders supporters that showed up.

In Other Games

Sharkies spoil Manly’s party at Brookie.
  • Title favourites Storm put the cleaners through the glamour Broncos team to win 50-12. It looked like men v boys. The Storm left points out on the field while the Broncos were turnstiles in defence.
  • Panthers and Roosters win to square up at Penrith in the finals
  • Manly blew a home ground Finals opportunity with a 40-20 mauling by the Sharkies. The Sea Eagles now take on the Bulldogs in front of a massive Doggie crowd in next week’s eliminator. Go the Doggies!

Round 27 Results

Thank You

The Creator

Firstly, thank you to Pablo for co-running this season’s tipping competition. Without you, Footy Tipper 2024 would not have happened. We are well overdue for a beer.

To my partner MLC, family and Tipster friends. Thank you for your support and banter.

Finally, thank you to all the Tipsters for joining in each week. I hope we kept you entertained and provided an extra incentive throughout the season. Remember to send all complaints about Standouts directly to evil Pablo.

Best of luck to all Tipsters who have a team in the finals. I will be cheering on the Cows and Doggies until they get eliminated.

It’s been a fast, but long, season so looking forward to recharging my batteries and cheering on the Denver Broncos.

Go the Dragons in 2025! See you all then.

Pablo

Ditto to Robbie’s comments. Well done and thanks to Rob for keeping the comp running smoothly. FYI – he manually input approx 50% of all tips received.

Thanks everyone for your participation this year. It’s always pleasing to see that come round 27 we still have a large percentage of tippers still submitting tipsheets despite probably not having a chance to win ! I trust you all enjoyed the comp and look forward to seeing you all back again next year (plus a few of your mates).

If your team made it to the finals I wish you good luck, unless of course that team is Manly or Melbourne. I’m on the Dogs or Sharks this year since my beloved (useless) Dragons are out (yet again).

Each year we look forward to taking all your money, pooling it, then 27 rounds later distributing it to the best NRL tippers for the year.

And so, this year’s winners were;

The Winners

Weekly Jackpot

Since no one picked the Fullcard, we had a random number draw to determine the winner. That winner was ……  Big Moose. Another $30 into his collection for the year.

Congratulations to all our winners. Rob will contact you over the next couple days to organise for the $$$ to be distributed.

See you next year.

Thank you, Creator and Pablo. Another exceptionally well run competition. Please stop calling them “Stinky Manly”, ha , ha.

    Cheers.

Rob and Loomsie, thank you gentlemen for time and effort running a very successful and enjoyable competition which would have even more enjoyable if I was any better tipping winners.
    Cheers and until next season

  3. Shagger

Another year, and I was pipped at the post, again, almost a full card to take out the $40 Jackpot and assure my entry into next years competition. A few failed email attempts made me not have my selections in on-time and evil Loomsie takes the hit. I just don’t think management want me to win. Anyway, happy Shagging everyone!!!!!!!!!!! LOL
