Shark Attack
The Sharkies win the local derby against the Dragons and sit on top of the NRL ladder. In a tough match, the Sharks came back from a 10-6 halftime deficit to grind out a 20-10 victory.
The Sharks have the best defence in the comp conceding 110 points (32 of which was in their only loss against the Wests Tigers). Now before Sharkie supporters get too excited, there is a reason they are outside the Top 4, in premiership betting.
How many teams have the Shark played in the Top 8? Just the Bulldogs.
The next six weeks will test their credentials out against the Storm, Roosters, Panthers, Eels, Broncos, and Dolphins.
New Coach, Same Result
Rabbitohs fans thought their team had turned a corner when they cruised to a 12-point lead against a Panthers team minus Nathan Cleary.
But that’s where the Bunnies good times ended much to a sigh of relief to all those Tipsters who had a Standout on this game.
Poor Ben Hornby must have thought how easy this coaching gig is when the Bunnies started on fire. But they ran out of puff after 10 minutes.
“Cruised” is probably the correct term for the Rabbitohs. I mentioned previously, Souths do not look fit. I guess that’s what happens when your playing group defines standards.
If coaching this mob was easy, JD would still be at the helm.
The Bunnies get Latrell Mitchell back next week against the Dragons. But they lose Jye Gray (fullback), Dean Hawkins (halfback) and Cameron Murray (captain) to injuries.
Big Names Out
Adding to Souths injury woes, Bronco’s Adam Reynolds and the Storm’s Ryan Papenhuyzen join Cameron Murray as long-term injuries.
All players are key to their team’s chances. The Rabbitohs season is over, but the Broncos have Jock Madden and Tristan Sailor to cover their losses while the Storm will once again rely to Nick Meaney at fullback. The true test of depth will be when Origin calls in five weeks time.
Raiders Comeback
I still don’t know how the Raiders managed this win. The Sea Eagles led 24-6 in the second half but the Raiders scored the next four tries.
Five tries a piece and it came down to goal kicking. Manly’s ever reliable Reuben Garrick had an off-night kicking just 2/5. That proved the difference.
In Other Games
- Rooster fans get excited. The Chooks have now tallied 100 points in two weeks in their strong win against a Broncos side that pushed too many passes
- There were a lot of exciting finishes in most games with 2-8 points separating five matches this round
Round 9 Results
Main Competition
No change in the top 4 with all of them scoring 6 points. So it’s still The Creator from GeorgeTheDragon, SMOG and Bart Simpson. I miss Benji and Micrider scored 7’s and now make up 5th and 6th places.
The Standout
Despite the upsets this round, most tippers managed to get their standout correct. Curiously though, overall scores and average scores were terrible.
- Standouts correct – 48
- Standouts wrong – 7 (5 of which were on Stinky Manly)
- The average score – 5.96
- Our round high – 8
- Our round low was – +1
Footy Tipper Weekly Jackpot
