Hi Tipsters, I hope everyone survived the east coast drenching and stayed relatively dry. Our unassuming street is a flood zone but we are at the safety of the high end.
But not everyone fared as well. Imagine coming back to your car with this flood mark on it?
Storm v Broncos
What a fantastic game. I feel like every week has a match of the year contender and this was no different. The Broncos held a two point lead into halftime and the Storm ended up two point victors at fulltime.
This game seesawed. When one team looked to have the match in the bag the other hit back. It was exciting, went down the wire. In fact, throw any clique you want into it. The Storm having Munster and Hughes back in the halves for the 1st time this season proves they are contenders again for 2024.
The Broncos suffered an injury to key player Adam Reynolds but fans have a lot to look forward to. It is a long season. Wait till Reynolds, Haas and Walsh are all back and hopefully finish the season off on a roll.
The Big Wet
Two matches were played on Flood Friday. The Bulldogs upset the Roosters leading 26-0 at halftime to ultimately win 30-26. Big talking points was the knock-out of Roosters skipper James Tedesco and the send-off of teammate Dominic Young. The high shot by Young always looks worst with the spray of water off the victim’s head.
Next match was up to Newcastle to watch Dom Young’s former team, the Knights, defeat the Dragons in atrocious conditions. Big kudos to the 10,000 supporters who braved the pouring rain.
Tale Of Two Green Teams
At the start of the season, I had Souths playing finals football and the Raiders down in the cellar somewhere. The main reason was Raiders captain, and their best player, Jack Wighton defected to the Rabbits for a chance to win a premiership.
How wrong was I? How wrong was Jack? The Raiders played scintillating football to smash the Eels while the Warriors did likewise smashing the Rabbitohs.
I wrote a rant questioning the Rabbitohs thought process dropping half Lachlan Ilias and how the team is now painted in a corner. Now add Latrell Mitchell facing a 3-4 week suspension and Lachlan Ilias breaking his leg in lower grades.
Souths face the Sharks, Bye, Storm and Panthers in upcoming weeks.
A Weekend of Milestones
Congratulations to Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and Jake Granville for playing 200 NRL games and winning for the Warriors and Cowboys respectively. Evergreen Cowboy Kyle Feldt also surpassed Matt Bowen to race to the top of the club’s try scoring record.
Manly captain Daly Cherry-Evans now holds the record for most appearances for the men in pink playing his 310th game. Congrats DCE.
