Well, it took over a week but Round 1 is done and dusted. And just look at the teams up the top of the ladder.
Round 1 upsets started way back in Las Vegas (match report is below) and continued through Thursday and Friday.
I still don’t quite understand what I was watching when the much-fancied Knights and Warriors fell to the Raiders and Sharks at home. Both matches were sold out and pretty much everyone expected the home teams to continue their strong 2023 form.
Except this is round 1.
The Knights never look likely and made too many errors while the Warriors led every stat except the one that matter the most.
Storm Keep Record Alive
22 seasons and the Storm have not lost their 1st round match. I know. Lots of Tipsters have been waiting for this streak to end and coming up against the three-time reigning Premiers seemed enough.
The match was a mistake-athon with 25 stoppages in the 1st half alone from penalties or errors. Yet, you could not, not watch, this game.
The Storm leading 2-Nil at the break and missing key players. It felt like just a matter of time before Penrith would click into gear. But alas, just like the World Club Challenge, the Panthers fell short.
The Storm were gritty in defence and Coach Bellamy was rightly proud of holding the Premiers scoreless with an 8-0 win.
The Panthers, well it’s déjà vu all over again with the exact same start as last season. We all know how that ended.
In other games the floodgates opened as the Eels, Dragons and Cowboys ran away with big victories. Each team leap frogging each other as competition leaders.
Round 1 Results
Main Competition
It was a tough round for punters last weekend. Wins to the Roosters, Raiders, Dragons and Sharks left punters scratching their heads…….but it is only 1 round and we didn’t really have any form to follow.
Three tippers managed 7 points – Pablo, T-Bone and Bridie and they head the Main Comp leaderboard. There are then 8 tippers only 1 point behind on 6.
The Standout
Not a great start for punters this week. Effectively, if you scored 3, you performed above average !! We had more standouts wrong than right !
