There were only five matches this weekend and I must confess I didn’t see many of them. I instead was listening to the dulcet tones of Jonathan Agnew (together with Phil Tufnell, Isa Guha and Australia’s voice of cricket Jim Maxwell) calling the first Test from Edgbaston Birmingham. My days were mostly spent watching replays of the evenings play.
Anyhow, the first two matches of the round were the games that caused the most angst for tippers.
Stats were almost split on who would win the opener between the Panthers and Cowboys. They probably put on the match of the round on Friday night with the Cowboys ultimately upsetting the premiers 27 to 23. The Cowboys came back from a 20-12 halftime deficit, and scores were levelled in the 63rd minute when Feldt scored in the corner. The teams exchanged field goals in the last two minutes of the match and the game went to golden point. It then took 8 minutes for the Cowboys to seal it with Scotty Drinkwater crossing for the match winning try. Great try too…. Slow passes to the kickers took a field goal of the cards, the only option – run it…!!! And in a solo effort, he ran it for 30 metres to score.
A strong first half from the Roosters was enough to see them prevail over the Knights 18- 16 in Newcastle. The big news to come from this game was a suspected broken jaw to Luke Cleary. On a side note, I was intrigued that the Knights were favoured by the tippers 42 – 17 – so there were 42 of us a bit disappointed with the result.
And the good news for the round was seeing Stinky Manly go from (58- 18) heroes to (4 – 34 zeroes. They were totally outclassed by the Eels.
Here are all the results from round 16 ;
Main Competition
TheZipZipMan reassumes the lead of the competition from Big Baba who crashed and burned with a paltry 2 point week. Big movers were I miss Benji and Splinter (up 5 and 7 places respectively) who both jagged full cards for the round. Benji moves into 3rd relegating Budgie to 4th .

Footy Tipper Weekly Jackpot
We had 3 clever punters manage to get all 5 games right – Krusty, I MissBenji and Splinter. Well done all, but it does mean that our prize pool jumps to $40 for round 17.
Good luck with your tips this week.
