Magic Round 2023 was magic to all Queensland teams with the Broncos, Dolphins, Cowboys and Titans all recording wins.
Here are my magic moments;
Mr Wayne “Magic” Bennett
The biggest thing at Suncorp was “Magic” Bennett’s victory in his 900th NRL/ARL match. The best rugby league coach ever with seven premierships with two clubs.
“Magic B” also took the Raiders to a Grand Final loss in 1987 as well as the Broncos last second loss to the Cowboys in 2015.
As modest as he is, you could tell how much he appreciated the acknowledgement and presentation.

Rabbitohs Coming To Age
The Rabbitohs look magnificent. Latrell Mitchell is in his career best form. Their last five wins include the Dolphins, Panthers, Broncos and Storm.
In Magic Round, Alex “Magic” Johnston scored twice in his 200th game.
This team is looking the goods. If they don’t win the competition this year, it will be the next with Jack Whiton added to this already impressive squad.
West Tigers Win Again
The Tigers are on a roll. Two successive wins sees them rocket up to last place.
Playing fellow dysfunctional team, the Dragons, the West Tigers held on to win 18 – 16 and are now equal on six competition points.
Dragons fans should be worried. Had there been more conversions kicked during the season, they would be entrenched in the Top 4.
These are the teams they both play before their next guaranteed points:
- The Tigers play – Rabbitohs and Cowboys before the bye
- The Dragons play – Cowboys, Roosters, Dolphins, Panthers, Rabbitohs before the bye
Suncorp Stadium Surface
It got ripped up and, in the end, looked more brown than green in the middle but it survived. Congratulations to the stadium staff and all businesses and people who enjoyed Magic Round.
Now it’s time to move on to… Round 11.

Guru2810 continues to hold onto a one point lead. TheZipZipMan and Big Baba swap places with MLC locking up a clear top four.
