Footy Tipper 2022 – Round 16 Wrap

As you all would have seen, the NRL put on its annual Beanie for Brain Cancer Round to support the Mark Hughes Foundation. The MHF was formed to raise much needed funds to promote research, heighten awareness and support brain cancer patients (children and adults) and their families within the community. Even Sportsbet got involved offering to donate $1K for every try scored ($2K if a captain scored).

Fresh from his teams amazing victory in SOO II, coach of the Mighty NSW Blues, Brad Freddy Fittler
sporting his MHF Beanie with Mark Hughes himself .

Knights – 38 vs Titans – 12.

A total of 8 tries to Edrick Lee (5) and Dominic Young (3) in the Knights thumping over the Titans 38 – 12, cost Sportsbet a small fortune (not that they can’t afford it). The Knights dominated from the outset leading 22 – 0 at half time. The end score line could have been worse for the Titans with the Knights only kicking 3 from 8.

Rabbitohs – 30 vs Eels – 12

The Eels only managed 12 points in their shock loss to the Rabbitohs (interestingly that was the same score that the Cane Toads managed against the Mighty Blues in SOO II). Clint Gutherson managed both tries for Parramatta earning $4K for the MHF. The Bunny deserved their win, but the long-awaited return for Latrell Mitchell fell a bit flat. He did nothing wrong, but didn’t exactly set the world on fire. 12 weeks on the sideline will do that to you though. He has even ruled himself out of selection for SOO III (The Decider).

Warriors – 22 vs Tigers – 2

Welcome home the Warriors. Mount Smart Stadium hosted the return game for the Warriors – the first game in over 1000 days – and a capacity crowd of 26,000 fans went home happy. They trounced the poor old Tigers barely giving them a sniff.

I will not be drawn into the controversy being stirred up by Ricky Stuart about a non-penalty on the last play of the game in Canberra’s loss to the Dragons at a wild and woolly Win Stadium. All I will say, is “Look at the score-board” – Dragons – 12 vs Raiders – 10

Here are all the weekend results

Main Competition

Pretty much a copy and paste job from round 15. No real movement in the top 5 – Turbohamstrings in leads by 2 matches from Murch, Panthers29 and Admireel. The big mover – Magnum – up 6 places into 8th and into the cash.

Second (Chance) Competition

Reminder – the scoring system is based on the cumulative scores of your selected teams.

Magnum and Robert Cook share the lead on a total 216 points, with iTerry in 3rd on 210. All 3 tippers scored 9 in the Main Comp BUT the difference in differential was the game they got wrong. Smog and Year of The Knights both sit in 4th place on 204.

The Standout

  •  52 – got it right.
  • 19 – got it wrong
  • The average score –  6.15
  • Our round high – 9
  • Our round low was – 2
