The South Sydney bus trip from Redfern to Wollongong was delayed by 35 minutes and the Dragons took full advantage – they ran in 6 tries while the Bunnies were getting strapped and rubbed down with Dencorub. The Dragons did not trouble the scores for the rest of the match, but the damage had already been done. Andrew McCullough celebrated his 300th NRL match with team high 37 tackles, and a well-deserved victory 32 – 12. The win puts the Dragons into the top 8.
The Friday games told a different story. The highly favoured Cowboys and Storm were expected to make light weight of their competitors, the Sea Eagles and Broncos but it didn’t really turn out that way and I’m sure a few sphincters were puckered watching the games.
Cowboys vs Sea Eagles. After 65 minutes of play, the Cowboys were staring down a 14 point deficit when Manly crossed for their 5th try of the match leaving the score at an unlikely 26 – 12. With only 7.5 minutes to go, Robson crossed under the posts to give the Cowboys a sniff. Then within the space of 3 tackles (and 3 minutes), the Cows had run in 2 more tries to take the lead and ultimately the match 28 – 26.
Storm vs Broncos. While the final score line of 32 – 20 favoured the Storm, they did not have it all their own way. Down 16 – 6 with just 6 minutes to halftime, the Storm looked anything but being at their best. Two quick tries prior to the bell took them into the sheds at 16 all and some pride had been redeemed. They went on to score 3 more tries in the 2nd half – in essence, they laid on 26 unanswered points over the Broncos.
It was nice to see the Doggies win their 2nd game on the trot – I read it is the first time since 2019 that they have managed to achieve that feat. They have now scored 70 points in their last 2 games. Things are looking up in the kennel. Truth is, they are still running 13th, but they are becoming a nuisance to teams who think they will pick up an easy 2 competition points.
Here are all the results from round 15 ;
Main Competition
No real movement in the top 5 except for the fact that Turbohamstrings increases his lead to 2 matches from Murch, Panthers29 and Admireel who all sit on 110 points. The big mover was Cruella who dropped 9 places and into 16th spot.
