Footy Tipper 2022 – Round 7 Wrap

Another great weekend staged by the NRL to commemorate ANZ Day 2022. All 8 games were previewed with members of our armed forces and the Last Post and Reveille were performed. All clubs were sporting special jerseys designed to pay tribute to Australian and New Zealand forces.

Two games in particular caused tippers the most angst this week.

Have the Tigers gone from pretenders to contenders ? Following last weekend’s heroics to topple the Eels with a field goal in the dying seconds, they managed to do the same thing to the highly fancied Rabbitohs – this time with 50 second on the clock courtesy of the left boot of Luke Brooks.  Only 4 punters out of the 73 tips received believed that Wests were a real threat. Credit where credit is due – they dominated the possession, metres gained and tackle breaks. Final score23 – 22.

Craig Young hands Ben Hunt the Ashton Collier trophy.

I didn’t rate the Dragons to have a hope in hell of defying the Roosters what should have been an easy victory in their clash at the SCG. I was happy to be proven wrong (even though it did cost me a point in the tipping). Ben Hunt came out of retirement and put on one his best displays in years to give the Dragons some direction and he was rightly awarded the Ashton Collier Spirit of ANZAC Day trophy for a man of the match performance. He saved the game twice at the death. He first kicked a crucial 40-20 with three minutes to go to give the Roosters just one more chance to score the match-winning try. He then iced the game with a desperate knockdown when Roosters winger Daniel Tupou was trying to offload to an open teammate as the Chooks made a break down the sideline. The Dragons managed to hold on to a 14 – 0 half time lead to take the points 14 – 12. Only 5 of our tippers got this one right.

Can anyone explain to me how this tackle DID NOT result in a sinbinning or even send off ?

No real surprise in the last match of the round – The Storm have blown the Warriors off AAMI Park with a second half onslaught to run away 70-10 winners. Following a tightly contested opening half, in which the Storm only led by six at the main break, the Storm poured on 10 unanswered tries to hand the Warriors their biggest defeat in club history.

Here are all the results from round 7 ;

Main Competition

No movement in our top 3. Turbohamstrings maintains the lead from Murch and Craig Youngs Love Child. The big mover was Krusty moving up 7 places and into 4th spot with a strong 9 point round.

The Standout

  • 69 – got it right.
  • 4 – got it wrong
  • The average score – 7.38
  • Our round high was 12 – achieved by 1 tipper……check who jagged it below.
