Firstly, I hope everyone enjoyed a very Happy Easter long weekend.
With the exception of the Dragons vs Knights match, the round looked pretty easy to pick didn’t it ? So why was our average score a mere 6.33 ?
It all started on Thursday night when the Raiders capitulated against the Cowboys. With Canberra enjoying a 12 – 0 lead after just 15 mins, a slaughter was on the cards. Despite a glut of possession (57% I’m informed) they couldn’t improve on that score line, and that’s how they went into the sheds (and all due credit to the Cows keeping them out). The Raiders seemingly failed to return after the break and the Cowboys resurrection began. They systematically destroyed an error riddled Raiders outfit running in 3 unanswered tries in the 2nd half to claim the 2 premiership points 18 – 12.
It all ended last night, when the Tigers (finally) broke their 2022 drought with an unlikely 21 – 20 over the Eels. It was always going to happen, but not many punters thought it would be against the Snakes AT Commbank Stadium, given the last time they met there, it was a 51 – 6 shellacking! The game was as tight as the score line suggests. Scores were locked at 20 all in the 68th minute when Marata Niukore scored for the Eels. The deadlock was broken with 5 seconds on the clock when Jackson Hastings nailed a 32 metre field goal. 22 punters made the fatal mistake of taking the Eels as their standout – I would have thought that the undefeated Panthers would have been the logical call, but who am I to judge. Michael Maguire can breathe a sigh of relief – at least for a week. They face the Bunnies next week ……
