Footy Tipper 2021 – Round 17 Wrap

Cut-off Times for round 18 Friday 16th July 2021 – Titans vs Eels 6:00pm AEST. Tips will not be accepted after this time.

Brothers ?

Raiders 30 – Manly 16
Well, Stinky Manly are fallible after all. Only 5 tippers predicted that they would fail against the Raiders. 62 of us didn’t see it coming !!! BUT WORSE – 12 of us (myself included) had them as a deadest standout ! Dessie Braveheart offered no excuses for the loss “…we were just poor tonight….”. That’s just not good enough Des ! Look at some of the havoc your team have caused on our leaderboard……

Sharks 20 – Warriors 12

What ever happened to family friendly post-try celebrations ? I personally prefer Tingha Blacklocks effort.

The Sharkies did enough to stave off the Warriors at Netstata Okey Dokey Jubilee Stadium. The talk from this game seems to be around Braden Hamlin-Uele channelling Paul Gallen and decking teammate Jack Williams in his post-try celebrations. It would have been funnier better if he had ACTUALLY clocked him. Given the NRL’s current stance on contact with the head and high shots, would he have been placed on report ? Would he have been sent off or sinbinned ?

Get the dictionary and thesaurus out for these highly enlightening and thought provoking insights from Paul Gallen on the Jai Arrow incident.

Rabbits 46 – Cowboys 18
The Rabbitohs (minus Jai Arrow) did it easily over the Cowboys in Newcastle. I didn’t bother watching the game, but was interested in hearing the commentary about the incident involving Arrow. The aforementioned Paul Gallen eloquently spoke about Arrows brain explosion to allow an “an unregistered guest” into the Maroons’ team hotel. That little faux pas cost Arrow $35K, a SOO appearance and a 2 match ban. Big words such as unbelievable, stupid, dumb dumb thing to do rolled off the punch drunk mans tongue.
I personally blame the NRL for these recent indiscretions that we are seeing by the players. We all know that Rugby League players are NOT the sharpest tools in the shed, and are not noted for their high IQ’s (as compared with the high-class and well educated Rugby Union players), BUT had the league introduced these rules concerning high shots and contact with the head sooner, we would not be seeing these dumb (to quote Paul Gallen) COVID beaches.

Finally the Roosters 22 unsurprisingly beat the Bulldogs 16.

The Standout

  • 53 – got it right.
  • 13  – Got it wrong.
  • The average score – 3.99
  • Our round high was a PERFECT 8.
  • Our round low was MINUS 1

Main Competition – Ladder Leaders

Our new leader is Kane G who holds a 1 match lead over 786Om. Big Baba fell victim to my “will he choke” jibe last week and has fallen to 3rd place. The gap between 1st and 10th is now only 6 points.

Previous Leaders

  • Round 1 – MJP181 and MR TAYLOR
  • Round 4 – StuartS
  • Round 10 – Carlos
  • Round 13 – 786Om
  • Round 17 – Big Baba

2nd Chance Competition – Ladder Leaders

Footy Tipper and Kane G still leads the 2nd Chance comp. Don’t panic Kane Tipper is NOT financial so at the moment you are looking at $100.

Defending Champion and Big Moose share 2nd place and stand to win $40 each.
