Footy Tipper 2021 – Round 16 Wrap

Cut-off Times for round 17 ..…
Thursday 8th July 2021 – Sea Eagles vs Raiders 7:50pm AEST
Tips will not be accepted after this time.

Let me just start with my life mantra …. People are dumb, I hate people, people are selfish and thoughtless. I don’t discriminate – I believe that 95% of the population fit into this category. The latest to join that list is the 12 Dragons players who partied on at Paul Vaughan’s place on Saturday night. Honestly, what were they thinking ? Or better – NOT thinking.

Also I recommend you have a read of Rob’s Rant – COVID’iots (posted at 6pm last night) for his thoughts “…… The selfishness of these players is letting down the governing body, their club, teammates and supporters. It is placing the NRL at the mercy of megalomaniac State Premiers who could dictate new terms at a whim….”

Last year Vaughan was stood down for 14 days after he breached the NRL bubble by attending a cafe in the Illawarra without signing in under his own name. Vaughan was also handed a $10,000 fine.

Now that I have that off my chest, let’s go to the matches. Now because I was partying on, I only saw 2 full games (one of them being Stinky Manly having an 11 try feast against the Doggies) so we’ll do this differently this week. Our 2nd Chance Comp started this round, and with a mix of some very high scores and some tight finishes, our leaderboard has an unusual look.

Big wins to the favoured Storm (46 – 0), Manly Silvertails (66 – 0) and Knights (38 – 0) meant that most tippers picked up the potential maximum 150 points the easy way.

The Rabbitohs failed to put the knife into a disappointing Tigers outfit yielding 22 points in the 2nd half of their match. But thankfully (at least for most punters) they prevailed 38 – 22.

So to the games that punters had most difficulty in picking ;

  • The Dragons gave themselves a great reason to party (NOT !) with a golden point win over the Warriors. 33 got it right, 35 got it wrong but that’s no biggie… If you picked the Warriors, you only drop one point
  • A missed penalty goal from Mitch Moses at the death of the Eels/Panthers match cost the Eels a victory. Matt Burton’s field goal in the 78th minute was enough to see the Clearyless Panthers get up 13 – 12. 43 got it right, 25 got it wrong but that’s no biggie… If you picked the Eels, you only drop one point

The games that cost most tippers points ;

  • The unfavoured Titan’s totally outclassed the Raiders in Canberra 44 – 6 (it was the only other game I did watch last weekend). Amazingly they managed 3 tries while Fifita was in the bin for a late hit on Sam Williams. 88% of tippers thought that the Raiders were a shoe-in for a win. Alas they only pick up 6 points, while 8 clever punters pick up 44 points.
  • The Broncos got themselves off the bottom of the NRL ladder with an unexpected win over the Sharks 26 – 18. The differential may have only been 8 points but it was the game that cost fullcards for Kane G and Defending Champion.

The Standout

  • 64 – got it right.
  • 5  – Got it wrong.
  • The average score – 6.74
  • Our round high was 9.
  • Our round low was 2

Main Competition – Ladder Leaders

Big Baba (124) hangs on to the lead, but by a reduced margin of only 1 point from Kane G (123). 786Om drops down to 3rd place on 122. The gap between 1st and 10th is still only 7 points. 9 rounds to go people ! HAS THE CHOKE FOR Big Baba begun ???

Previous Leaders
• Round 1 – MJP181 and MR TAYLOR
• Round 4 – StuartS
• Round 10 – Carlos
• Round 13 – 786Om

2nd Chance Competition – Ladder Leaders

An unusual start to the 2nd Chance Comp this year with some blow out scores really setting the scene.

Our leaders after the first round are Defending Champion and Kane G on 282 points. Both tippers only missed out on the fullcard thanks to the Broncos upsetting the Sharks by 8 points.

Big Moose sits in 3rd place on 280 points – Interestingly he only scored 7 in the main comp and had 3 games wrong. But two of those “wrong” games were decided by just a field goal !!

The gap to 4th and 5th places (GeorgeTheDragon and Splinter – both on 251 points) is already 29 points !

Footy Tipper Weekly Jackpot
