Footy Tipper 2021 – Round 10 Wrap

Cut-off Times for this week…

Thursday 20th May 2021 – Cowboys vs Knights 7:50pm AEST

Tips will not be accepted after this time.

I tend to stay away from the politics in NRL and leave that up to Rob (have a read of Rob’s Rant – “Player Protection Or Overreaction?” that he posted last week), but the crackdown on repeat offences and attacking of the players head was over-policed on the weekend. I listened to two very interesting interviews with Wayne Bennett and Trent Barrett and tend to agree that the direction the NRL are taking is going to diminish the brand. It’s not Oz-Tag, it’s a contact sport and the hits do hurt. Provided there is no 1980’s style thuggery I say let the game roll on. The highly criticised Bunker needs to be totally reviewed, and it’s “hindsight” oversight of every play needs to be scrapped. (Rex Mossop now signing off). I encourage you to post your thoughts.

Anyhow here’s a brief summary of what happened in sunny Queensland ;

  • The Tigers finally got away to a red-hot start, scoring 4 tries in the first 25 minutes of their match against the Knights. They were never headed and took the game 36 – 18. 17 penalties and 4 sinbins.
  • Manly made their way into the top 8 with another dominant display – this time against the Broncos, racking up 8 tries to 1 (the Trbojevics contributing 3 of these). Final score 50 – 6. 12 penalties, 4 sinbins and 3 players on report.
  • The Bulldogs managed to snatch a defeat from the hands of victory in their game against the Raiders going down 20 – 18. The match was theirs with only 13 minutes left to play (up 12 – 8 at the time), but 2 quick tries to the Raiders put a knife through that. 1 Send-off (refer to Ricky Stuarts thoughts on that one !) , 1 sinbin, 9 penalties and 3 players on report.
  • The Rabbitohs held off a late surge from the Sharks to take the points with a 32 – 22. They let a 20 – nil lead wither to just 20 – 16 with only 14 minutes to play. Tries to Walker and Arrow in the 73rd and 76th minutes sealed the deal. 1 sinbin, 8 penalties and 2 players on report
  • James Tedesco starred for the Roosters in their 30 – 16 win over the Cowboys. They did let the Cowboys back into the match after letting an 18 – 0 lead (after just 26 minutes) slip to 18-16 just after half time. 2 sinbins, 8 penalties and 3 players on report
  • The Eels made light work of an ill-disciplined Warriors outfit to take out a convincing 34 – 18 victory. 0 sinbins, 8 penalties at least 2 on report – the match review committee to announce any other findings today
  • The Storm made light work of the Dragons (who clearly didn’t watch any of the preceding games of the weekend) running out 44 – 18 victors. Tyrell Fuimaono was rightly sent off in the 11th minute for a swinging arm that left the Storms fullback Papenhuyzen heavily concussed. 1 send off, 1 sinbin, 7 penalties and at least 3 on report – the match review committee to announce any other findings today
  • The Panthers made it 10 from 10 with an easy victory over the Titans 48 – 12. Nathan Cleary picked up a hat-trick of tries and bagged 8/8 conversions taking his match tally to 28 points. 1 send off, 1 sinbin, 17 penalties and at least 4 on report – the match review committee to announce any other findings today

The Standout

  • 65 – got it right.
  • 2 – got it wrong (both backed the Knights on Friday night).
  • The average score – 9.00
  • Our round high was 12
  • Our round low was 2

Main Competition – Ladder Leaders

Carlos continues to lead the comp (on 82 points) but he has now been joined by Kane G who jagged the full 12 points this week. Their lead is still tenuous over the next 9 players who are all within a mere 4 points of them.

Previous Leaders

  • Round 1 – MJP181 and MR TAYLOR
  • Round 4 – StuartS
