Footy Tipper 2021 – Round 9 Wrap

Cut-off Times for this week…

Friday 14th May 2021 – Wests Tigers vs Knights 6:00pm AEST

Tips will not be accepted after this time.

The picture says it all. Third placed Rabbitohs vs Fourth placed Storm – looked good on paper. No smiles from Wayne Bennett after the match (no surprise there) and no excuses for a depleted Souths team. The Storm simply blew them out of the water 50 to zip.

Friday night saw another towelling – the still undefeated Panthers mauled the Sharks 48 – 0. Charlie Staines helped himself to 3 tries in the victory. The Sharks have now lost their last 5 on the trot.

Not even the slightest hint of arms used in this one. You can almost hear the wind escaping from Hutchison’s lungs.

The Eels had a “grubby” win over the Roosters in a spiteful match 31 – 18 at Bankwest Stadium. Three players will face the judiciary but the ugliest incident was a pair of knees delivered into the ribcage of Drew Hutchison by Dylan Brown that sent him to hospital with probable broken ribs and punctured lung. Brown has taken an early guilty plea and will cop 3 weeks. Does the punishment fit the crime ?

I made the mistake of switching off the Raiders vs Knights match at half time with the Raiders up 16 – NIL. Along with the other 94% of tippers, I thought my 2 points were in the bag. Someone needs to check the oranges they gave the Knights in Wagga Wagga, because they came out and showed some class to steal the win 24 – 16.

The Titans broke a 3 week losing streak to beat the West Tigers 36 – 28 in Campbelltown.  They had broken away to an 18 – 0 lead early, and went into the sheds 24 – 12 up. The Tigers fought hard in the 2nd half, and despite scoring 3 late tries, the clock ultimately beat them.

The Cowboys won the arm-wrestling competition in Townsville over arch enemies the Broncos 19 – 18 with a 77th minute field goal to Valentine Holmes.

Stinky Manly work their way into 9th spot on the league ladder with another impressive win – this time over the Warriors 38 – 32. Turbo Tom Trbojevic continues to impress contributing with 4 try assists, 3 line breaks, 2 tries and a partridge in a pear tree.

It took the Dragons 50 minutes (and the sinbinning to Will Hopoate) to take control in their match against the flailing Bulldogs at Kogarah. In a scrappy game they ultimately prevailed 32 – 12 over Canterbury. As they say – a win is a win.

The Standout

  • 67 – got it right.
  • 1 – got it wrong
  • The average score – 7.57
  • Our round high was 9
  • Our round low was 3

Main Competition – Ladder Leaders

Boring….. No one seems to be able to peg him back….. Carlos continues to lead the comp by 2 points. Yackas took a bit of a hit dropping 7 places to 9th, but Om786 and 786Om (one in the same punter) both move up 1 place into 2nd and 3rd respectively. It’s worth restating though …. only 4 points separate 1st from 9th places.

Previous Leaders

  • Round 1 – MJP181 and MR TAYLOR
  • Round 4 – StuartS
