Cut-off Times for this week…
Thursday 6th May 2021 – Rabbitohs vs Storm 7:50pm AEST
Tips will not be accepted after this time.
Souths made it 7 straight wins to overcome the Raiders 34 – 20 in Canberra on Thursday night. A slow start saw them down 16 – 14 at the end of the first 40 minutes. They resurged in the second half outscoring the Raiders 20 – 4. Controversially (according to Ricky Stuart at least) the Raiders did have 2 tries disallowed for obstruction.
The Storm’s Reimis Smith helped himself to a hattrick of tries in their 40 – 14 victory over the Sharks at AAMI Park. Like the Rabbitohs though, the Storm didn’t show up in the 1st half as the Sharks looked to redeem themselves from the humiliating loss to the Doggies in Round 7. After a spray from Bellamy in the dressing rooms, they came out and outscored the Sharks 34 – 6 in the final 40 minutes.
The Broncos were still in the dressing room when their match against the Titans kicked off. They eventually ran on to the field in the 15th minute staring down the barrel of the 22 – 0 deficit. They then put on 36 unanswered points to ultimately take the points 36 – 28.
The Panthers continue their unbeaten streak with a win over the Sea Eagles 28 – 16 in Bathurst. To be fair, Stinky Manly tested the ladder leaders for most of the match. It was a seesawing 2nd half where both teams played some excellent footy. A Panthers try in the 57th minute to May looked to have sealed the match with the scoreboard reading 22 – 12, but a lightening fast Jason Saab try with 7 to play brought Manly back into the fray. A freakish try to Stephen Crichton in the 77th minute was enough to get the Panthers home.
Nothing to report on the Eels vs Bulldogs match. As expected, the Eels totally outclassed their opponents 32 – 10. The Eels are probably disappointed that they didn’t lay on a few more points.
A similar story in Newcastle where the 4th placed Roosters outmuscled the Knights 38 – 4. Josh Morris crossed 3 times in the victory, but the big news was the potentially career ending injury to his brother Brett. I don’t think there would be ANY rugby league fan happy to see B-Moz bow out this way.
The Warriors held on to a 24 – 4 half time lead to see off a late finishing Cowboy team 24 – 20. Nathan Brown was particularly pleased with the team that was stacked young and relatively inexperienced players. The win sees them move back into the top 8.
The Tigers out razzle-dazzled a tired looking Dragons outfit to claim their 2nd win of the season in Wollongong 16 – 8. All the talk centred around young debutant Zac Cini who scored 1 and had 1 disallowed. My read was that the Tiges simply played with an attacking flair all match that the Dragons had no answer to. Has the seasonal slide set in at Kogarah ?
