Footy Tipper 2021 – Round 7 Wrap

Cut-off Times for this week…

Thursday 29th April 2021 – Raiders vs Rabbitohs 7:50pm AEST

Tips will not be accepted after this time.

Roosters and Dragons play it out at the SCG.

Another great weekend staged by the NRL to commemorate ANZ Day 2021. All 8 games were previewed with members of our armed forces and the Last Post and Reveille were performed. All clubs were sporting special jerseys designed to pay tribute to Australian and New Zealand forces.

It shaped up as a fairly straight forward weekend for tippers, and on Thursday, Friday and Sunday we saw no real surprises…..

The Panthers played out a gritty 24 – 6 win over a determined and physical Knights outfit.

The Rabbits and Titans played out an entertaining 11 try spree for the spectators. Down 24 – 10 at half time, the Rabbitohs (inspired by Benji and David Fifita) stormed home to a 40 – 30 victory over a determined Titans team.

The Eels systematically destroyed the Broncos 46 – 6 (8 tries to 1) in Darwin. The Eels make their way in 2nd place while the Broncos are now left languishing in 15th place after 7 rounds.

The Sea Eagles are clearly enjoying Tommy Turbos return to the team and are playing themselves back into form. The Silvertails had  a convincing 40 – 6 victory over the Wests Tigers at Bankwest Parramatta. DCE picked up a quick double within 2 minutes of each other in the first half, but it was Trbojevic who led the stats – 1 try, 2 assists, 2 line breaks, 220 metres running, 6 rebounds, 2 hole in ones, and 3 sacks. ASTOUNDING.

The Roosters had a simple win over a bungling and scrappy Dragons team 34 – 10 at the SCG. Rookie Sam Walker continues to impress for the Roosters and is really gaining a name for himself. The Dragons could have a few headaches in the coming week with both wingers in trouble for some ugly on-field incidents.

The Storm overcame a weakened Warriors outfit 42 – 20 at AAMI Park. Reimis Smith and Josh Addo-Carr picked up doubles in the 8 tries to 4 victory but it was the in-form Jarome Hughes who picked up the MOM honours – 4 try assists, 3 line breaks, 115 metres running, 2 run outs and 1 pickled herring. ASTOUNDING.

But then we come to Saturdays shockers….

You can’t actually see the tears in this shot, but Trent does show his feminine side with this emotional embrace after their first win of the season.

The Bulldogs broke their duck (which frankly I thought would last all season) with an emotional victory over the Sharkies 18 – 12. They scored all their points in the first 22 minutes of the game, and with a concerted defensive effort (and 6 disallowed tries to the Sharks) they managed to hold on to the 2 points. They also made history being the first team to enforce the 18th man rule when Siosifa Talakai was sin-binned for a shoulder charge on Doorey that saw him leave the field in Disneyland.

There were no tears in Townsville however when the Cowboys upset the Raiders 26 -24 (Ricky doesn’t cry – he just gets mad). The Raiders seemed to have the game in hand just before half time when the score was 24 -6, but with 1 minute on the clock Ben Condon scored to take the Cows in for oranges with a reduced deficit of 24 – 12. The Raiders didn’t come out after half time and failed to score a point. Converted tries to Robson and O’Neill saw the scores level at 24 all at the 58th minute mark. The victory sealed in the 69th minute with a Valentine Holmes penalty goal. Holmes had a blinder of a match – he ran for 193 metres, 1 try assist, 1 line break, 5 goals, a pork chop, 1 perfect 10 on the balance beam, and a perfect 10 framer to score 300 pins. ASTOUNDING.

The Standout

  • 70 – got it right.
  • No one – got it wrong
  • The average score – 7.37
  • Our round high was 9 – Well done to BigBaba who was the only person to get it.
  • Our round low was 4

Main Competition – Ladder Leaders

Carlos continues to lead the comp by 2 points (on 56 points) from Yackas (on 54 points), but the next 7 punters narrowed the gap by 1 point. There is now a mere 3 points between 1st and 10th places.

Previous Leaders

  • Round 1 – MJP181 and MR TAYLOR
  • Round 4 – StuartS
