Footy Tipper 2021 – Round 6 Wrap

Cut-off Times for this week…

Thursday 22nd April 2021 – Panthers vs Knights 7:50pm AEST

Tips will not be accepted after this time.

The Broncos gave the undefeated Panthers their first real work out of the season on Thursday night at Suncorp Stadium. The 2 points were in the balance for almost all the game, and either team could have taken the spoils. Late in the 2nd half, with the scores at 12 all, Nathan Cleary nailed a 43 metre 2 point field goal with just 7 minutes to play. He then went on to score the sealer just 4 minutes later taking the Panthers victory 20 – 12. The score not a true reflection of the match.

Kayln Ponga starred in their victory over the Sharks 26 – 22. His tally for the night of 14 points – was made up of 2 tries and 3 goals, AND he figured in 2 try assists. It was noted that was suffering from a severe stomach virus that saw him throwing up behind play on several occasions. After adding this “burley” to the Knights own red zone, the Sharks rallied to take the lead 22 – 20 midway through the 2nd half and it looked like they would pull off the victory. With just 3 minutes to play, Chucky Ponga scored the winner after some entertaining lead up work from the Knights. The Sharks week of woes continued ….

The reigning premiers the Storm prevailed over the Roosters in a scrappy match at AAMI Park 20 – 4 If you got to the game late, you didn’t miss much – it took the Storm 49 minutes to score the first try of the match when Jahrome Hughes got on the end of a beautiful double pump pass from Harry Grant. Two further tries took them to 20 – 0. A goose egg to the “Brett Morrisless Roosters” looked on the cards until a smart cross-field kick from Tedesco to Matt Ikuvalu saw them score on the last play of the day.

Dorothy and Toto arm in arm, somewhere over the rainbow (right) in Kansas. 2 other guys arm in arm somewhere under the rainbow in Mudgee.

Manly dished it out to the Titans winning 36 – 0 at Glen Willow Oval Mudgee. Tom “triple word score” Trbojevic, back from his torn hammy, destroyed the opposition who frankly showed nuffn. Manly will consider moving all their home games to Mudgee – not only was there a huge pro-Sea Eagles supporter base in attendance, but most of them also had to travel further than their seaside compatriots in Brookie to watch their team.

Golden point “tries” in the 81st minute – who got the 2 premiership points ?

In probably the match of the round (a true nail-biter) Souths broke the hearts of Tigers fans winning in golden point 18 – 14. If you missed the game and get a chance to watch it, DO IT. I have limited space (and try not to bore you too much) but the first 75 minutes were good, but the last 6 minutes were exceptional. The Bunnies fought back from a 14 – 6 deficit with 15 minutes to play. 66th minute – converted try to Gagai. 74th minute – a daring 2 point field goal to Reynolds to level the scores 14 – 14. 78th minute Souths miss a very kickable penalty goal. 79th minute Souths miss a very kickable field goal. Extra time – 81st minute Tom Burgess runs 32 metres to “score” under the posts which is originally disallowed and play on called. Tiger halfback Brooks then runs the length of the field to “score”under the posts. We have a result one way or the other. The Bunker reviews and deems that Burgess got enough of his hand on the ball to apply downward pressure. Game over. Phew….. 69 tippers breathe again……

The Eels dominated the Raiders in their clash in Canberra prevailing 35 – 10. Still in the match at half time, the Raiders got swamped by Eels in the 2nd half dropping conceding 23 points to nil.

The Warriors upset the Dragons recent resurgence to beat the home team 20 – 14. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck (currently 3rd in the Dally M chase) ran for 265 metres in the match and scored the game sealer in the 67th minute to take the 2 points. Tipster Ian From Dublin was the only punter to back the Warriors this week.

The Cowboys had the bye round, beating the Bulldogs 30 – 18. The Doggies weren’t bad, but a good old fashioned coat hanger in the 55th minute to Hetherington saw him heading to the dressing room for the early shower. It pretty much all went downhill from there.

The Standout

  • 67 – got it right.
  • 2 – got it wrong
  • The average score – 6.36

Our round high was 9 – well done to Yackas who was the only person to achieve this score.

Our round low was 1
