Footy Tipper 2021 – Round 3 Wrap

Cut-off Times for this week…

Thursday 1st April 2021 – Sea Eagles vs Panthers 8:05pm AEST

Tips will not be accepted after this time.

I’m sensing a trend developing this season after only 3 rounds – fantastic matches and tight finishes. You certainly get your monies worth for your admission fees to the ground, and if you’re watching at home, do not turn off the telly before that final siren blows.

Panthers remain undefeated but only just. Well the Panthers got some sweet GF revenge over the Storm in a Thursday night thriller. A try in the 78th minute to Kurt Capewell saw them take the lead for the first time in the match. Don’t turn off the telly yet  ….. Melbourne’s Justin Olam was denied a try after the siren (on the last play of the match) by Kikau who managed to get his arm under the ball in the in goal area.  51 tippers breathe a deep sigh of relief. 5 tippers got their standout correct.

The Warriors came back from a 25 – 6 deficit at half time to take the points in Canberra 34 – 31. Cutting to the chase (and ignoring any of the controversy during the match), after a great 38 minutes in the 2nd half by the Warriors, Adam Pompey scored a  try – again in the 78th minute, to give them lead.  Don’t turn off the telly yet  ….. with only seconds left on the clock (on the last play of the match) Jordan Rapana looked certain to score the match winner in the corner – until Roger Tuivasa-Sheck (I love that name) stretched out his arm and dislodged the ball over the goal line. NO TRY !! 68 tippers are devastated by Canberra’s loss – 25 are crying because they lose 2 points on their standout.

The West Tigers broke their season drought by getting over the undefeated and highly favoured Knights  24 – 20. The Tigers lead for most of the match, but after tries to Pearce (62nd minute) and Frizell (in the 68th minute) it looked as though the Knights would prevail. Don’t turn off the telly yet  ….. an error by Gehamat Shibasaki on his own 3 metre line led to a 72nd minute try to Nofoaluma to see the visitors regain the lead. Alas there were no last minute heroics from Newcastle and Wests went on to take the points. Gerehu3B was our only tipper to het this one right. And worse still, 14 tippers are crying because they lose 2 points on their standout.

The last big upset of the round was the Bunnies getting over the Chooks 26 – 16. A strong first half from the Rabbitohs saw them take a 18 – 0 lead into the half time oranges break. Even the Roosters weren’t good enough to claw that back in the 2nd half and copped their first loss for the season – relegating them to 3rd on the ladder. And worse still, 7 tippers are crying because they lose 2 points on their standout.

In the other games ;

The Dragons outmuscled Stinky Manly 38 – 12 in the ‘Gong. St George’s combinations are finally starting to gel. 6 tries to 2 bear testament to that. That said, Manly have had a staggering 110 points scored against them in 3 matches –  Dessies woes continue as his team maintains the lead at the bottom of the table (now a 3 week streak).

The Broncos did it easily against the Bulldogs 24 – NIL to record their first win for the season. The Doggies have only managed to score 16 points this season. The only reason they are not wooden spooners is their overall for/against is better than the Sea Eagles. Trent Barrett should really be feeling the pressure – couldn’t happen to a nicer bloke.

The Eels have made their way up to 2nd on the competition ladder with a convincing 28 – 4 victory over the Sharks. The Sharks led early with a 6th minute try to Katoa, but was the only time I heard from the crowd at Engadine Bowling Club with Parramatta systematically destroying them. To be fair injuries to the Sharks squad didn’t help.

Lastly, the Titans had a comprehensive victory over the Cows 44 – 8.

The Standout

  • 22 – got it right.
  • 48 – got it wrong
  • The average score – 3.64 (oh dear)
  • Our round high was 8 and achieved by only 2 tippers – well done StuartS and Kane G.
  • Our round low was ZERO !!

Main Competition – Ladder Leaders

StuartS takes the reigns by virtue of achieving the round high of 8 (and he didn’t even tip his beloved Tigers). He leads by one point from Pablo (go me !) and Yackas who are both on 24 points. We then have  8 players all on 23 points. Special mention to Kane G who also scored the round high 8 – this saw him jump 30 places and into 6th overall.

Footy Tipper Weekly Jackpot

So all is not lost despite all the low scores last weekend – the up side is that our jackpot prize pool now reaches $40 for round 4

Good luck with your tipping this week.

Interesting round. Newcastle, why, why, why?

Its great to see the Bronco’s highlights from their full-back over the weekend. It must have been an unbelievable match. At any rate, anyone from Queensland is just great to watch.

Shagger, the Redcliffe under 12 team could have beaten the Doggies. I wouldn’t get too excited just yet mate.
