And it began with a bang at AAMI Park with the defending champions Melbourne Storm scoring 22 points in the first 30 minutes of the NRL’s 2021 season. In a post Cam Smith world, they dominated possession and left the Bunnies looking flat. Papenhyuzen scoring 16 points in their 26 – 18 win.
The Eels had a strong victory over the Broncos at Suncorp prevailing 24 – 16 (coming back from 16 – 0 at half time). The Broncos lost the battle and the war with injuries to key players Coates and Asiata.
The Warriors had a great first up win against the Titans at Central Coast Stadium 19 – 6. Temperatures up there were in the 30’s and the game played at a fast flowing pace. The Warriors won the battle against fatigue – their defence was relentless.
The Roosters were clinical in their first hit out for the year against Stinky Manly. They destroyed the Silvertails 46 – 4.
The Panthers kept the Cowboys scoreless in their 24 – 0 win at home.
The Knights defeated the Bulldogs 32 – 16 in Broadmeadow in front of nearly 20,000 fans.
The Raiders did it easily against the Wests Tigers 30 – 12 at home in front of their handclapping fans.
The Sharks won the local derby against the Dragons 32 – 18 at Kogarah.
