Broncos vs Panthers 7:50pm AEST
Tips will not be accepted after this time.
Bit of an unusual round 16, with 3 of the first 6 games not going exactly to plan (at least not for punters anyway).
- The Bunnies continued on with their great form destroying the Eels 38 – 0. All but 14 tippers saw that one coming (and I’m pretty confident they didn’t predict the magnitude of the Rabbitohs win). The only dampener to the win – Latrell Mitchell was helped off the field with a season ending ruptured tendon.
- The Titan’s (the most winningest team in Palaszczuk Land) had an impressive win over the Dragons 14 – 10. A strong defensive effort, backed up with 2 great and late tries in the last 6 minutes, saw them mow down the Dragons and pick up the 2 points. Only 7 tippers thought a Titans win was on the cards.
- The Warriors kept their slim hopes of a top 8 finish in tact with a solid win over the Knights. Peter Hiku-Adam Pompey and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck (don’t you just love those names ?) both scored doubles in the win. Only 12 tippers thought a Warriors win was on the cards.
The remaining 5 games went largely to script;
- The Roosters had an easy 10 try to 2 win over the Broncos. Final score 58 – 12. It just gets worse and worse for the Broncs. The Roosters at looking at getting a few players back from injury in the coming weeks – and SBW should be running on soon. Is a 3peat back on the cards ?
- Standing in the Roosters way is the Panthers who just keep winning week on week. Not unexpectedly they knocked off the Tigers 30 – 6.
- The Sharks defeated the Cowboys 28 – 12. The win sees them stay relatively comfortable in 8th place, 4 points clear of the Warriors
- Melbourne, regenerated with the return of several players from injury (including Cam Smith) had a good win over Stinky Manly 30 – 6. PNG International Justin Olam (who is becoming a bit of a cult hero), picked up a hattrick of tries in the win.
- Finally – Canberra got out of jail beating the Bulldogs 34 – 20. The score was not really reflective of the game. The Doggies lead at halftime 20 – 12. Ricky Stuart gave the Raiders a blast at the break – the result – a 4 try to 0 second half. The poor old Doggies – they just can’t take a trick in 2020.
The Standout
66 – got it right.
2 – got it wrong
The average score – 7.12
Main Competition – Ladder Leaders
There was no movement on the ladder for the top 12 punters. All of them scoring 7 or 8. My “choking” jibe however seems to have backfired with Mary McGregor increasing his lead back to 5 points. 4 rounds to go however – so it’s not over yet.
Historical leaders
Aaron C and Chur_moi (Round 1)
Big Papi Productions (Round 4)
2nd Chance Competition – Ladder Leaders
Last weekend showed why this format of scoring is so unique.
We have a new leader – iTerry now leads on 1291 from 2nd placed Shagger on 1277. Both punters managed round high scores of 9. In the Main Comp it meant they went up a mere 4 places each, BUT in this comp, they went up 16 and 25 places respectively !!! Reason ? They got guessed the Bunnies/Eels result correct. That game on its own means a 38 point swing on the rest of the field.
Well done to them. 4 rounds to go however – so it’s not over yet.
A reminder, your score is based on what each of your selected teams score (win or lose). The sum total of the 8 games determines your overall score.
