IMPORTANT NOTICE.
What a year we have had so far….. bushfires, cyclones, floods…
Due to the announcements made by the NRL on the weekend in response to the impact of coronavirus, the Creator has posted an update on our website as to the strategy we propose to follow going forward with regard to Footy Tipper 2020. With games scheduled to go ahead next weekend (albeit without spectators) , we are currently going with a “business as usual” approach. Obviously we will need to reassess the situation as further announcements are inevitably. I encourage you to read the update, and post any comments or thoughts you may have on the site. You can access the article via the link – footytipper.org/wp/2020/03/16/coronavirus-update/
Wrap Up
No more talk about that stuff, here is what happened last weekend.
Firstly, I mentioned last week that tipper numbers would be down this year. At the time we had 63 people signed up (and we were a bit disappointed with that). But as happens every year, come kick off at 8.05pm last Thursday we ended up with 83 starters – only 1 punter short of last year !
Round 1
- The Eels had a boring win over the Bulldogs on Thursday night. Back to school for the Doggies (then again …. maybe not given what happened last time they went to school)
- Raiders smack the Titans. With 2 tries in the first 13 minutes, the game was basically over. This all happened before the Canberra fans hands had cooled down after that ridiculous viking clap thing they do.
- The Broncos spoiled the Cowboys party at their new Townsville home in front of a good crowd of 22,500. News had clearly not reached NQ about mass gatherings…..
- The Knights decimated the Warriors 20 – 0. No wonder Jacinda locked the door on them coming home to NZ – I’d lock them up for 14 days too based on that performance ! Now they can look forward to a little holiday in Australia
- Souths held on to win 20 – 18 despite a late Shark attack – ScoMo noticeably absent.
- Penrifff upset the reigning premiers (and 58 of us footy tippers) by an impressive 20 – 14 scoreline. Made more impressive in the fact they were down 12 – nil after only 20 minutes. Stop that 3peat.
- All reports you will read say that Manly were in this game up to the end. The way I see it, Cam Smith on his own and with a walking frame would have beaten Manly at Brookie yesterday. The Storm haven’t lost a round 1 match in 18 years. They took the 2 points by a convincing 18 – 4 scoreline.
- Wests beat the Dragons.
The Standout
Pretty good for most punters this week.
72 – got it right and +2 bonus points coming your way.
7 – got it wrong 2 points deducted from your scores.
The weekly average score was 6.78. Not bad for Round 1.
Ladder Leaders
We have 2 leaders (after points differential) both on 9 points ;
- Aaron C
- Chur_moi
