Round 1 – Viva Las Vegas

The season kicks off with the NRL’s 3rd iteration of Las Vegas on Sunday before the remaining matches complete the following weekend.

But before this, there is so much more to catch up on.

Brisbane Broncos 2025 NRL Premiers

Brisbane Broncos 26 – Melbourne Storm 22

Congratulations to the Brisbane Broncos on winning their 1st premiership in 19 years in what can only be described as an incredible month of football.

Forever the under-dog horse, the Broncs started the finals with THAT extra time/golden point match that knocked the Raiders into 2028.

It was an amazing game to watch but I could not help feeling sorry for the Raiders fans who thought they had the game won on at least three occasions.

Follow this match up with defeating the (former) Premiers(x4) Panthers after trailing 14-0 at half-time and the Storm in the GF also trailing 22-12 at halftime.

In both games, the Broncos did not concede a 2nd half try and it’s a testament to their hard work during the offseason that their effort areas were on show right to the very end.

Hull KR 2025 Super League Premiers

Hull KR Robins 24 – Wigan Warriors 6

I don’t normally include the English Super League but congratulations to the Robins for taking out the English treble winning the Super League, League Ladders Shield and Challenge Cup.

And also, for …

Hull KR World Club Champions

Hull KR Robins 30 – Brisbane Broncos 24

Hull KR now have a completely full trophy cabinet defeating the Brisbane Broncos 30-24 for the World Club Championship.

The Broncos gifted the massive under-dogs birds three tries from three errors to start the game with Hull KR leading 30-4 with twenty to play.

The crowd were in party mode dancing and singing to Depeche Mode’s “Just can’t get enough” when the comeback kids scored the next four tries including three in five minutes to silence them.

The Broncos had their opportunities to post another unlikely come from behind victory, but the Robins were deserving victors.

Parramatta Eels Win A Trophy

The Parramatta Eels win a trophy. Now in colour.

Congratulations to the Eels for winning their 1st piece of silverware since their minor premierships of 2001 & 2005.

I know it’s only trials, but I guarantee every supporter who have still liked to see their team win it.

The trials showed encouraging signs for Eels, Titans, Wests Tigers, Cows and Bunnies supporters while heavyweights Storm and Panthers failed to notch-up a win.

Interestingly, Raiders coach Ricky Stuart refused to play any of his stars in the final hit out against the Sharks who knocked them out of last year’s finals.

Not sure what message this says about their mental strength.

The Rabbitohs Win The 2026 Charity Shield

South Sydney Rabbitohs 28 – St. George Illawarra Dragons 24

Dragons fans should be concerned. A near full-strength Dragons team could not beat a NSW Cup Rabbitohs side for the Charity Shield in Wollongong.

The Dragons played their young and upcoming players the previous week with a victory over the Knights. Perhaps their mind was preoccupied with the Las Vegas opener?

Which brings us back to where we started.

Season Opener

Fire up your BBQ. Put your beers/wine/bubbles on ice. Sunday 1st March will be huge.

  • Starting with the World Champions Hull KR v Leeds Rhinos in Round 3 of Super League at 10:00am AEDT
  • The Knights v Cowboys kick-off the NRL season at 1:15pm AEDT
  • The Bulldogs and Dragons host their local derby in a not so local venue at 3:30pm AEDT

This is the start of our tipping competition so don’t leave you tips till the last minute.

My advice, submit your tips before the weekend and relax. You can always change your tips right up until kick-off of the Knights v Cows game. We don’t mind.

Good luck with Round 1 and with your teams this season.
