It’s already Round 6. Check out my preview and selections for this round.
Thursday Football
The Panthers juggernaut starts the round off against the Bulldogs and there is nothing here to say the Dogs will trouble them.
The Panthers have the best defence in the competition while the Bulldogs have the 2nd worst attack (only 1 point better than the Dragons who were held scoreless last week).
Winner – Panthers
Friday Night Football
The Dragons play hosts against the Sea Eagles in Wollongong. Between them there is only one win in five rounds.
The Dragons have parachuted their great saviour, Kyle Flanagan, into the number 7 while moving Daniel Atkinson to five-eighth. The defensive maestro that is Tyrell Sloan moves to fullback for the injured Saint Gutho.
Expect the Manly halves to be peppering Sloan with high kicks all game.
Winner – Sea Eagles
Next, we head north to (yet) another Queensland derby.
It’s the Broncos v Cowboys. Both teams have turned their seasons around with three consecutive wins. The Premiers(x1) would be the automatic pick here but the Broncs have major injury concerns with Reece Walsh and Ben Hunt out and injured Adam Reynolds named to start.
This will be a tight contest.
Winner – Cowboys
Super Saturday
We start with a double-header in Perth. Rabbitohs v Raiders and Sharks v Roosters.
These games are tough to pick.
The Rabbitohs are in the Top 4, the Raiders have won just once this season. Surely, they are overdue for another victory. I’m not so sure.
And then there’s the Sharks v Roosters. They are both evenly matched and evenly frustrating to tip. The Roosters have been bolstered with the return of Victor Radley from their self-imposed suspension which might be enough.
Winners – Rabbitohs, Roosters
Super Saturday completes in Melbourne where the Storm take on the Warriors.
The Storm are facing four straight defeats while the Wah’s are staring down the barrel of three. The Storm have lost at home against the Broncos that started their losing streak. The don’t lose too many at AAMI Park so I expect the streak to end.
Winner – Storm
Sunday Football
It’s the battle of the blue and golds/yellows when the Eels take on the Titans.
Parramatta have a massive injury toll including five-eighth Jonah Pezet. But, they are at home, were very spirited in last week’s golden point loss to the Wests Tigers, while the Titans have been woeful.
Winner – Eels
The final match is the match of the round with 2nd placed Wests Tigers v 3rd placed Knights at Campbelltown Stadium. If you take the Tigers’ bye points off it’s the other way around.
Both teams are playing fast entertaining football despite both missing star players Jarome Luai and Kalyn Ponga. The forecast is for a dry track so expect a high scoring match.
This game was a toss of the coin for me.
Winner – Wests Tigers
