AAMI Park

Last weekend was my first visit to the Melbourne Storm’s home ground and I was impressed. So much so, I’ve been inspired to write an article.

Last Friday, MLC and I attended the Grand Final replay between the Storm and Broncos at AAMI Park.

And I was impressed.

Pablo previously mentioned how great the ground was to watch footy from his tenure south of the border. I’d been totally sceptical as it always looked grey/green and depressing on TV.

But he was not wrong.

It’s looks like a spaceship just landed.

The location is amongst all the other major stadiums in Melbourne and next to the MCG. For its age and what it is, the amenities were still great and the atmosphere was fantastic.

And it started earlier.

We were fortunate to have been roped into the official Broncos supporter group as they walked past our hotel, which was fun in itself, and then add ex-players, Alfie Langer, Sam Thaiday and big Petro to that group.

So, it got me thinking about all the grounds I have watched NRL games and what order I would rate them.

Here is my list:

Allianz Stadium
Suncorp Stadium
AAMI Park, Melbourne
Jubilee Oval, Kogarah
Cbus Super Stadium, Gold Coast / Robina
Go Media Stadium, Auckland / Mt Smart
Sydney Football Stadium (old stadium)
Accor Stadium / Sydney Olympic Park
Sydney Cricket Ground
WIN Stadium, Wollongong
Parramatta Stadium (old stadium)
Leichhardt Oval
Campbelltown Sports Stadium
Brookvale Oval
Belmore Sports Ground
Shark Park
Redfern Oval

And here are the current stadiums I have yet to visit and my order of priority:

CommBank Stadium
Queensland Country Bank Stadium
Kayo Stadium, Redcliffe
GIO Stadium, Canberra
Penrith Stadium (under construction)
McDonald Jones Stadium, Newcastle

Have you watched games at other grounds? What do you think of my list and order?

And yes, that cowbell you hear at all Storm home games is even louder and more annoying live.
