How has the NRL made it so difficult to be consistent with hip-drop sin-bins?

I have ranted before about black and white rulings v shades of grey.

Yes, please indulge me below.

This round we have Cowboys player Valentine Holmes put on report and sin-binned for a hip-drop tackle and in the same game David Klemmer just put on report.

The aftermath of this is Holmes is facing a fine while Klemmer is looking at 3-4 weeks suspension.

And again, in tonight’s game which makes me angry, Rabbitohs Latrell Mitchell is sent to the sin-bin yet the Eels did not for a similar tackle.

We have players milking any opportunity to reduce the opposition to 12 (or less).

We have coaches and commentators questioning whether this is a “classic” hip-drop or not a hip-drop.

The answer is simple.

  • Penalty
  • On report
  • NO SIN-BIN!
