The Women’s Game And More

The Women’s games are writing history.

The Matildas have taken the country by storm in the FIFA Women’s World Cup and now take on England for a place in the final.

The series has forced NRL matches away from the main stadiums. The matches showing the Matildas are the highest rating of all sporting events including State Of Origin, NRL and AFL Grand Finals.

The whole country will be watching and cheering on Wednesday night!

The NRLW is also in full swing with the competition expanding to ten teams, Women’s State of Origin to two matches. It is only a matter of time before it is aligned to the Men’s and be a best of three series.

Fox Sports have a great promo running for the series and Lara Pitt hosts the new weekly NRLW on Fox.

While this is all very positive the NRL has been lacking.

  • There was no season launch for the NRLW.
  • Two players have been sent-off in the opening weeks.
  • Dragons NRLW coach Jamie Soward attending a mandatory post-match press conference to find nobody there to ask questions.

The Storm continue to rewrite their history.

Congratulations the Melbourne Storm on your 25 years anniversary and proud history.

I am not sure why there were six premiership trophies on display when only four were real.

The 2007 and 2009 trophies which officially are marked as “No Winner” were replicas.

To celebrate competition wins where the Club and players were guilty of the biggest salary cap cheating amazes me.

Those who say the players were not at fault? I am sure some weren’t involved. Others naïve when presented a boat of expensive electrical goods. But in other cases, player agents would have known better, as were the players who (allegedly) signed two different contracts.

Run To Finals

The NRL Finals Series is only three rounds away. It is getting clearer only the Panthers, Broncos, Warriors and Storm are capable to make it all the way through to the GF.

The rest are battling amongst themselves to make up numbers.

Especially the Raiders who are the only team in the top eight with a negative for/against score (-120) they are 200+ points behind every other team. If you go by that score, they would be sitting in 14th place.

Battle of the Spoon

The Wests Tigers are favourites to go B2B Spoon holders.

The Dragons hold a two win lead but play all top four teams Storm (H), Warriors (A), Knights (H)

The Wests Tigers need to win two of their last three against Dolphins (H), Roosters (A), Manly (A) for any chance to dodge the dreaded spoon.

RLPA Peace Time

The RLPA have agreed (in theory) to a new EBA ending their media bans and wearing strapping tape over the NRL logo.

Yawn.
