Tigers, Manly, Women in League Round and More

Women In League Round

I was about to post a rant about the Cowboys’ last second win/cheat over the Wests Tigers, and then, out came Manly.

The whole inclusiveness causing exclusiveness debate that has divided the NRL community has all been said and I won’t waste any more energy on this.

I just don’t know how Manly thought it was OK to hijack the start of Women in League round that the entire competition knew about. Why not wear the Pride jerseys the next home game?

The last match of the Women in League round was hosted at Netstrata Jubilee Oval.

And what a contrast to the events in the Northern Beaches.

The Dragons players all walked out holding hands with their choice of significant woman in their life. Whether it was their mother, partner, aunt or nan.

At halftime, The Arncliffe Scotts and Renown United girls teams played while the NRLW Dragons team was introduced to the fans.

Wests Tigers fan have been watching this for a decade now

Wests Tigers Legal Action

The Wests Tigers are still looking at legal action to have their last second loss against the Cowboys reversed. Under no circumstance can this happen. It opens up a Pandora’s box for future seasons. Why don’t the Raiders demand to replay the 2019 GF with the infamous six again call and a Rooster trainer interfering in the run of play?

The NRL own the Wests Tigers licence. Don’t bite the hand that feeds.

Could this be happening again?

Twice in a Lifetime

The NRL GF is in danger of heading north again after a dispute between V’landys and Premier Perrottet. The previous Premier promised to fund ground upgrades which the current Premier wants to re-divert to flood relief. But that could have been any excuse, COVID, GFC…

Queensland has three world class stadiums in Townsville, Brisbane and Robina. To a point where they are about to demolish the old 1300Smiles stadium in Townsville.

NSW has world class stadiums in Parramatta and soon Moore Park. I have no problem with the government looking at funding upgrades, but why are they including the Sharks and Panthers home grounds?

The Clubs own these grounds. The Panthers are one of the richest clubs and Sharks have their big swamp development. The Sharks were playing out of Kogarah while they were completing work. What more needs to be done?

Snap, Crackle and Pop!

Bad Boys

Nathan Cleary’s five weeks sidelined for a spear tackle was the correct message. Pat Carrigan’s hip drop that broke Jackson Hasting leg was referred directly to the judiciary. Four weeks was not enough for one of the ugliest type of tackles in the league.

But players and coaches aren’t helping themselves with the continued spate of diving in the game. Another example was Sharks Andrew Fafita staying down. He was automatically sent for an HIA and that’s the correct answer.

Good luck this weekend.
