What HIA? Clearly nothing to see here.

New Rules Make An Impact

How good were the weekend’s games with the new rules in play.

No more tackle restarts in the attacking team’s 40m. It’s a penalty. And there weren’t too many of that.

No more free replacements for high shots unless they are on report. And an independent doctor in the bunker forcing players off the field for an HIA where the club trainer/doctor didn’t act.

Didn’t that change cause a commotion? Roosters coach Trent Robinson said he was concerned about this. Concerned, as there is another rule that can no longer be bent.

The bunker’s independent doctor’s review must stay. Agreed, it wasn’t quick enough but this will be fixed during the season. It’s the coaches taking advantage of rules that lead them down this path.

The Bulldogs are also under investigation for making an HIA substitution when replays show there was no contact to the head of the player involved.

End The Crackdown

The NRL for some reason always come up with a crackdown that is all forgotten in a few weeks. In this case it’s with the incorrect play the ball.

Crackdowns are fine only if the referees are consistent. I saw penalties correctly given. But other incorrect play the balls let go.

This is what angers fans especially when it is their team pinged and not others. It is not anything like the Newcastle Knights tunnel ball of the late 80’s.

Leaderboards

Tipster Shagger’s comment to my previous weekly rant said it all:

Well well well. I have submitted my leaderboard immediately. It was not up this week. When will this be registered on my account. I dare say that this is required for all players wanting to easily find there mates below them, that’s if they can be seen. I can’t see either of “The Creator” or “Pablo”, are they in the competition this year. I hope so.

Leaderboards are available from Round 2. It is an easy way filter the ladder to show the tipsters you are interested in.

To set-up:

  • Select your name on the Main Competition page on the Tipsheet
  • Click the Edit On/Off button
  • Use the dropdown to select the Tipster you want in all Empty Slots
  • Edit off and Select Leaderboard View to see your leaderboard
  • Make sure you hit Submit so it is saved for future rounds

Round 2 looks like another potential disaster or a big leg-up. Tip wisely and good luck.
