The great Tommy Raudonikis will have a public farewell at the SCG on Monday 19 April at 11:00am. All gates will be open.
The Newtown Jets will also be honoring Tommy at Henson Park on Saturday at 3:00pm against the Newcastle Knights. A huge crowd is expected, so if you haven’t enjoyed the experience of watching the Jets in the Inner West, now is the time.
There is a lot already said about Tom Raudonikis. I was only just a teenager when he retired and remember the 1981 season and Grand Final. Tommy played during the most brutal era of rugby league and his infamous “Cattle Dog” call during the 1997 State of Origin series would have been dreaded by some of the modern players.
Tommy represent Australia and was part of the inaugural NSW State of Origin team. Tom loved coaching and mentoring. Even though he was true Blue NSW, he spent a lot of time coaching teams in Queensland and was instrumental in unearthing another great, Alan Langer.
This says a lot about his character and love of his sport.
Farewell Tom.
