The Brisbane Broncos have parted ways with coach Anthony Seibold and now join the Warriors, Cowboys and Dragons looking for a replacement for 2021. The Bulldogs have already secured the services of Trent Barrett.
But something is not right. And I will call it for how I see it as someone outside looking in.
The Broncos have always been the jewel in the NRL crown and until recently been the model all teams aspired to emulate. The successful Storm is a prime example.
The Club is full of wonderful traditions celebrating the success and mantra instilled since the great Wayne Bennett. One of these examples was a weekly BBQ with current players and former greats to reinforce connections and camaraderie.
But what happens when you bring in an “outsider” (albeit a former lower grade Bronco player) ahead of a Club legend as coach?
There has been an agenda and interference run since day one. Only results could have changed that, but unfortunately for Coach Seibold, they did not come.
Losing is a bad habit to fall into and difficult to break. Team truths, bonding and that legendary Broncos camaraderie was required.
Instead, we see former players outing Seibold. A former coach throwing barbs. Senior players at odds during press conferences. Players missing team events and breaking NRL rules.
This is before the slanderous social media campaign taking its final toll.
If there are enough people kicking stones or actively campaigning, something has to give. Right?
Here is hoping the next coach gets more support.
Please note: At no stage do I infer any current/former players, coaches or associates have done anything wrong or illegal.
